May Work Day

Hello Dear Friends,

Happy International Workers Day! Hope everyone is enjoying spring as much as possible!

Our May work day will be on Sunday 11th from 10am till 3pm - we are starting an hour earlier since the weather is getting warmer! As usual we will have lunch and beverages for you all. There, of course, will also be time to relax or take hikes anytime before we all leave at 4pm.

During the work day we will continue to clear land for our upcoming native tree and shrub planting. We will be labeling and protecting recently planted trees as well as working on a watering system, and we will continue to work on our new gathering area as well.

We recognize that we are living in challenging times with the climate collapsing, a live-streamed genocide and the complete annihilation of basic rights. Local organizer and author, Kelly Hayes writes “To transform our conditions, we must solve problems cooperatively with other people.” For us that means to continue figuring out ways in which the land can be a space of cooperation and to continue working on land based reciprocal relationships. So from our small corner of the world, we are planting seeds whose fruits will be shared.

If you can’t make it to the workday we also have a couple of events happening in May - we have a few spots left at our Wild Dinner on the 14th in Chicago and our Foraging Camp happens on the 25th. Our next Grief Retreat will be hosted on June 22nd - more details coming soon. If you are interested in hosting a workshop, event or project at the land please email us.

We hope to see you on the 11th! Please RSVP by May 9th if you are coming, so we know to expect you and how much food to bring!
